2022.01.25 10:05 brtd90 Weekly Song Spotlight #395: "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay

Let me know if there are survey issues!
Introduction The song spotlight is a recurring topic on this subreddit, where every week we will feature a different song included in the game or its DLC and discuss things like how to play its different riffs, techniques to focus on and more casual things like some interesting trivia or the artist's other work. Finally we'll conclude with a score attack challenge, a random entrant of which will be offered to choose the next song. Further discussion tends to occur over on the subreddit discord so head over there for that.
The format will change depending on feedback and participation, so don't hesitate to send suggestions myself or the mods in general.
This Week: "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay Next week's Poll Keep Your Hands to Yourself - Georgia Satellites E std - 80's Pack VI
Gimme Shelter - Rolling Stones E std/Open E (Rhythm) - Rolling Stone Pack
I Hate Myself For Loving You - Joan Jett & the Blackhearts E Std - Joan Jett Pack
Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers E Std - Classic Songs Pack
Score Attack Challenge Submit your score attack results by filling out this google form and including your score and a screenshot of the results screen you see after your playthrough. A readable photo of your screen is fine too. The form will need to be completed for each submission.
Scores will be included at the bottom of next week's spotlight divided based on the difficulty level (you can play any difficulty you'd like) and are tracked separately for lead, rhythm and bass.
A random entrant will get to pick next week's song!
Scores can be submitted until Monday, January 31st, at 17:00 UTC.

2022.01.25 10:05 bigbear0083 (1/25) Tuesday's Pre-Market Stock Movers & News

Good morning traders and investors of the StockMarket sub! Welcome to Tuesday! Here are your pre-market stock movers & news on this Tuesday, January 25th, 2022- S&P 500 futures slide by more than 1% as market’s wild ride continues

U.S. stock index futures fell sharply in early trading Tuesday, after a wild session that saw the Dow erase a more than 1,100-point decline to finish the day in positive territory.
Futures contracts tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 230 points, or 0.7%, having earlier fallen by as much as 380 points. S&P 500 futures dropped 1.3%, while Nasdaq 100 futures fell 1.9%.
The 10-year Treasury yield, which has climbed this year as the Federal Reserve tightens its monetary policy, rose Tuesday morning. The higher rates pressured growth-oriented parts of the market with technology shares lower in early morning trading.
During regular trading Monday, the Dow gained 99 points, or 0.3%, and snapped a six-day losing streak. At the lows of the day, the 30-stock benchmark shed 3.25%. The S&P 500 advanced 0.28% for its first positive session in five, after losing nearly 4% earlier in the day. At one point the benchmark index fell into correction territory, dropping 10% from its Jan. 3 record close.
The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.6%, reversing a 4.9% decline from earlier in the day. The comeback was the first time the tech-heavy index clawed back a 4% loss to end higher since 2008.
“The buyers are coming in to buy the dip here,” Lindsey Bell, Ally’s chief money and markets strategist, said Monday on CNBC’s “Closing Bell.” “Things looked a little bit over-stretched to the oversold side, so it’s not surprising. But that doesn’t mean we are going to be in the clear ... there’s a lot that we have going on this week,” she said
Ultimately, Bell said volatility is here to stay until the Fed begins hiking rates.
Despite Monday’s comeback, the S&P 500 is still down 7.5% in January, its worst month since March 2020 at the onset of the pandemic.
Markets have been rattled by a combination of factors, primarily a Federal Reserve expected to start raising interest soon to combat inflation, and geopolitical tensions between Russia and Ukraine. The economic impact of omicron also has been a concern, though signs that the Covid variant spread is diminishing have lessened those fears.
The Fed’s signal that it would began raising rates as soon as this March is the main culprit behind the market’s volatile start to the year.
The Federal Reserve Open Market Committee will begin its two-day meeting on Tuesday, with an interest rate decision slated for Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET. The Fed is not expected to begin hiking rates just yet, but is likely to maintain a path to tighter policy this year as it fights the highest inflation in decades.
“We’re in what I call the triple threat of ... rapidly rising rates, and the market has been working overtime, as have all of the algorithms, to try to figure out what that means, and what that pace means for valuations and global equities,” UBS Private Wealth Management’s Alli McCartney told CNBC Monday.
Monday’s reversal was “capitulation,” she said, before adding that while volatility is here to stay, the market narrative is beginning to shift towards one of strong earnings growth supporting stocks.
Monday’s volatility follows the S&P 500′s worst week since the pandemic took hold in March 2020. Spooked by rising rates, investors have rotated out of high-growth areas of the market in favor of safer bets. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note stood at 1.769% on Monday.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite has been hit especially hard and fell into correction territory last week. The index is down 11.4% so far this year, underperforming the S&P and Dow, which have declined 7.5% and 5.4%, respectively.
“Considering expectations for solid gains in the economy and corporate profits...we’re not convinced the fundamentals support any near-term technical weakness beyond the classic 10.0% correction,” said John Lynch, chief investment officer for Comerica Wealth Management. “Yet a review of the technical and fundamental backdrops suggests a bottom is forming,” he added.
Investors digested a slew of quarterly earnings reports before the open.
General Electric fell about 2% and Johnson & Johnson lost 1.8% in the premarket after both companies beat earnings expectations, but missed revenue estimates.
3M rose 1.9% and American Express gained 3.4% after

2022.01.25 10:05 questioner4lyfe Roommate/Friend expects me to smile at her all the time

Hi!I dont know how to post this without sounding like an epic a-hole, but whatever, here goes.
My roommate (high school friend, lost touch for 10 years because she got married and forgot about her friends, and then came crawling back bc she got divorced and found that she needed her friends again) and I have been sharing an apartment (with a 3rd roommate) for a little more than a year now. Toward the end of last year (so a month ago), my she (high school friend/roommate) and I had a bit of a falling out where in she made passive aggressive comments about a situation based on gossip/assumptions (that she heard/made). I don't like passive aggression and I called her out on this. She is hyper conflict avoidant (generally, just avoidant overall) and refused to apologize and talk about said problem, once the truth came out and everything was made clear ie: her anger was based on a lie someone else told her and she never really should have gotten angry at me to begin with. All that said, during our little tiff, she refused to talk about the issues in person (I made multiple attempts to ask her, nicely) and it went so far as to her banging doors in the apartment, calling me rude (via text - because she's afraid of in-person confrontation) and her basically ghosting me (her not responding to my texts), and then her running off to go live with her family (they live about 10 minutes away) for 3 weeks.
I, after 2/3 weeks of her conflict avoidance, and my need to solve issues fast, decided to call it a truce because I don't like uncomfortable living environments. So I told her I'm ok to move on, even without a conversation - in my mind, doing this just to make things less awkward at the apartment.
I'm sharing all of the above to state that, even though she and I are "good" now, I'm still holding a bit of a grudge and find it hard to be fake "nice" around her. Surprisingly and not surprisingly enough, she's come back in the apartment (after her 3 week vacation at her parents place), without any desire at all to talk about the issue, she's able to so easily be "nice" - I've concluded that she's fake nice and that I need to keep my guard up around her.
Point of this post: Before this incident, she'd do this thing where every time she came out of her room, she'd look at whoever was in the common area and smile at them (at first, it was endearing - you know, nice to have a smiling face around, why not?). But now its just aggravating. 1) Because I feel like our original issue is not resolved but mostly 2) because sometimes I just don't give a shit about smiling in my own apartment at someone I'm living with 24/7. Sometimes I just want to be. It's annoying because now, more than ever, I feel like I HAVE to force myself to smile because of the whole incident, just for her awkward-person comfort but a huge part of me does not give any fcks about smiling (lol). I feel like she smiles to get comfort that she still has our (myself and the other roommates approval). She's an socially awkward person, highly sensitive, shows anger passive aggressively, highly averse to conflict/confrontation, and, I think, suffers from really low self-worth/self-esteems (she and I are 31/31F), and seemingly masks a lot of what she's going through. These are all sad and I empathize with her and I was/wanted to be there for her during our first year (2021) living together, but she also lies a lot, and is fake (I'm starting to realize this now) in an effort to mask things and this is the part that makes her come off as disingenuous/untrustworthy to me, personally. I feel like I don't the person I was living with for the past year and I feel like I can't trust that what I'm getting is really her, let alone, a genuinely kind person.
So my question is, I know just smile back (fake it till ya make it ya have to) or just don't smile, are the answers, but it is not easy. How would you handle this situation?
TLDR: roommate is socially awkward person who always smiles when she sees me in our living/common areas (not because she's a kind and lovely person) but because she thinks its socially accepted thing to do, in a effort to get approval. i'm tired of "fake smiling" back and just want to be - how to do this?

2022.01.25 10:05 XVYQ_Emperator The way you romanize your conscripts

If your language is written in conscript (or just isn't latin script), then how do you romanize it?
My way to do this is:

  • When it's separate letter in conscript then it's separate letter in romanization
  • When it's marked with diacritic then it's latin letter with a diacritic
  • When it's digraph then it's romanized as two letters
But there are 2 exceptions with 1st subpoint because 2 of my clongs have too much sounds to represent them as every of the basic and extended latin alphabet...

2022.01.25 10:05 theKeronos A simple* d20 skill system were attributes influence skills while skills influence attributes. (*well, I'm asking you if it actually is ?)

Hello everyone !
It's been some time now that I've been working on my skill system, and I wanted to share with you its current state (that I'm very proud of :-) )
For context, I use a d20 system with binary outcome: The GM defines the difficulty of the situation, and you need to roll higher that it. If it is a skill-roll, you add your level in that skill to the dice. If it is an attribute-check, you add your attribute score to the dice.
It is relevant for the next part, so here are the attributes I use :

  • Robustness : health, straight, endurance and speed
  • Sensibility : perception, precision, reflexes and empathy
  • Intellect : understanding, memory, logic and imagination
  • Willpower : courage, focus, resilience and patience
From the very beginning, I wanted a character to be able to train or neglect any skill or attribute. That is: Between adventures, a character can change its mind and redistribute attribute-points between attributes and experience-points between skills (To a degree that depends on the time available).
At first: that was it. Each skill had an associated attribute that gives an additional bonus to your roll. But I had some issues :
  1. After some times, I realize it would be more fun/realistic if you could choose what attribute to use for a given skill-roll
To hit someone with a sword, do I: - Strike with all my strength ? - Observe how my opponent move and search for an opening in its defense ? - Plan a strategy based on my opponent style ? - or carefully prepare each of my strike and wait for the best opportunity ?
> But if attributes just give a straightforward bonus to your roll, why not always choose your best attribute every time ? Then, there is no strategy or creativity .. so what do I do ?
  1. Wait .... How do you train your attributes, if not by training your skills ?
You were a skinny dude but surely, if you trained your whole life to be a master of the sword, you gained some muscle in the process !?
> But how to implement this idea without adding to much complexity ? If you don't fix the previous issue, won't it be overkill to progress in a skill AND its relevant attributeat the same time as you level-up ? Also, you met the same issue of defining what attribute to improve for a given skill.
Now, I am very happy to present the mechanics I implemented to solve all those issues (and I'd be very grateful for any feedback):
  1. Each attributes give a bonus in its unique way. If a skill allow to use a given attribute, then you can use its modifier to your roll, but it won't be just a bonus. Here are the current modifiers (open to changes) :
  • Robustness : + R to your roll, but the result is always critical (whether a success or a failure)
  • Sensibility : +1 to your roll, +1 / successive roll on the same target (max: +S)
  • Intellect : After studying your target for a moment (my game mesure of time), add +I to your roll
  • Willpower : the d20 can't roll lower than W. (Or maybe the final roll value ?)
  1. When leveling-up a skill, you gain a point in an attribute (specific to the skill and level). For exemple :
Skill : Handling of a melee weapon (shown minus the abilities you gain)
level 1 : Rob.+1 | lvl 2 : Sen. +1 | lvl 3 : Rob. | lvl 4 : Sen. +1 | lvl 5 : Int +1 | lvl 6 : Wil. +1 | etc.
This example is not final, and I will probably simplify the process by spreading the level at which you gain points, but also giving more than on point.
If you want high attribute values, you need to choose skills with good "synergie" that focus on the same attributes. And I find this nice.
Final point : At the creation of a character, you spend a small amount of point between your attributes to define your base score in each, which represent your innate abilities (that you can't change).
What do you think ?
